National Language: The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish. However, English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Top dishes to try: Gallo pinto: A traditional Costa Rican dish of rice and beans typically served with eggs, plantains and sour cream. Casado: A Costa Rican platter that typically includes rice, beans, meat, vegetables and plantains. Olla de carne: A Costa Rican stew made with beef, potatoes, carrots, onions and other vegetables. Ceviche: A seafood dish made with raw fish, citrus juice, onions and cilantro. Empanadas: A type of pastry filled with meat, cheese or vegetables.
